Brush up on your poetry skills during our workshops and classes for poets at all levels.
The persona poem is written in a voice other than that of the poet: a public or historical figure, an invented character, a literary character, a figure in a painting, a relation, an alter ego, a creature, object, or concept.
The word persona derives from the Latin for “mask.” The voice of the created persona is filtered through that of the poet. Writing a persona poem is like wearing a mask which allows us to express an experience or point of view in a different voice, from a different perspective.
In this workshop, we’ll discuss the art of the persona poem and explore different approaches to writing one through various examples. We’ll also provide exercises and prompts for creating your own persona poem. Registration is recommended.
